- SAYFILE
- Utility program.
-
-
- SayFile will speak text files, while displaying them on the
- screen.
-
- A) Installing SayFile:
-
- When you install Monologue (see instructions for Monologue),
- SayFile is also installed to the same directory. Monologue is
- installed by inserting the source disk into a drive, changing to
- that drive (e.g. typing "A:" and pressing the Enter key), and
- typing "Install".
-
- B) Loading SayFile:
-
- To run SayFile, type "SayFile" at the DOS prompt. You will then
- see a title screen with help information. After pressing the
- Enter key, you will be prompted for the name of the file to be
- spoken. You may enter the file name, press the Enter key, and
- the file will be spoken as it is displayed on the screen.
-
- When you run SayFile, you may also pass a file name on the
- command line. If you do that, then you will not be prompted for
- a file name. For example, if you type "SayFile Tasks.Doc",
- SayFile will speak the file called "Tasks.Doc".
-
- The file that is spoken must be a text file. Word processors
- often store non-text characters in their files. When they do,
- many will allow you to save the file as a text file, or print the
- file to a text file. If so, you should do that before having
- SayFile speak the file.
-
-
- C) File Names:
-
- When you give SayFile a file name to speak, you may use the DOS
- masks. The "*" mask will substitute "*" with any string of
- characters. For example: if you have several files of E-Mail
- messages you want to hear, and they all end with the extension
- ".EML", then you can enter the file name as "SayFile *.EML" and
- all files that end with ".EML" will be spoken; This allows you to
- hear all of your files without being interrupted at the end of
- each file.
-
-
- Another DOS mask is "?". Whenever the "?" mask is found in a
- file name, the question mark is replaced by any ONE letter. For
- example, if your directory contains the text files t1A.txt,
- t2.txt, t2A.txt, t3B.txt, blue.txt, and t4.doc, and you entered
- "SayFile t?A.txt", the files t1A.txt, and t2A.txt will be spoken,
- while the files t2.txt, t3B.txt, blue.txt, and t4.doc will not be
- spoken.
-
- When you enter a file name to be spoken, you must also enter the
- path if the file is not in the current directory. For example,
- if you are in the C:\Monolog directory and the file Contract.Doc
- is in the D:\Letters directory, then you would enter "SayFile
- D:\Letters\Contract.Doc".
